I was driving back home from a department store and was heading towards a freeway on-ramp when a car sideswiped me and took off down the freeway. this person knew what they did because as i followed her she sped up and made multiple lane changes to try to get away from me. I managed to catch up to this person and got the license plate number and the car model. Once i returned home, i checked the side of my car and all there was, was a smudge from the other car's paint (barely showing tho) other than that no damages. So, should i go ahead a make a police report anyway, even tho there wasn't any serious damage done to my own car?

Yes you should report her as this is a hit and run. It is a more serious offense because she knew she hit you and ran from the scene.

Absolutely!!!

Regardless of the small damage to your car, that type of driver is a hazard to the general public. She is the type of loser person that not only does wrong but then tries to avoid responsibility, probably lacks insurance, and will continue to drive like an idiot until something serious happens.

What happens if the next time she causes a serious accident and really hurts someone?

What if you are the 3rd or 4th person this year she has done this to?

There needs to be a record and a ticket, then if she continues, her license will be revoked.

When everyone takes the convenient way out, that tends to add to the failure of society as a whole. I know I'm getting preachy here, but its all about doing the RIGHT thing vs the easy thing... IMHO.

Yes, I would. I'm so tired of so many people thinking there is no accountability in the world. For all she knew, she could have totaled your car. Don't be surprised, though, if the chicken-livered driver accuses you of doing something back. Her character is already in question for driving away. It'd be just like her to "plead her innocence" while pointing a finger at you! Maybe somebody will teach her a lesson in consequences some day. Maybe it will start with you. She may only get her hand slapped, if that; but she'll know she didn't get away unnoticed! Good luck. Glad there was no serious damage and no one was injured!

I guess that would be up to you. If you have insurance and you file a claim you will have to pay your premium which might cost more than the damage. Also I am sure the person was running for a reason could be they had no license or no insurance which means it might be more difficult for you to get and compensation out of them anyway. So the call is really yours. If the damage is not all that bad it might be better to either live with it or get it fixed and pay the costs yourself. Good luck to you.

Once you make the police report it will go on your record as being in an accident. Therefore the next accident that you are involved will raise your insurance rates, whether it's your fault or not. The young lady has probably learned her lesson, especially since you followed her.

Yes you should.

Why?

Because the next person the driver sideswipes might not live through it.

Consider yourself lucky and file the report.

Next time she could run your family off of the road and kill them and still keep going. Hit and run should be reported even if the damage is minor.

Your call. If there's no damage, your interest in the issue is pretty much moot.

However, the other person committing a hit and run is a crime, and you may want them off the street.

I think you should file a police report. This woman may have done this to other people or may do it again. By you filing a report, if she does it again, the police can show this is a pattern with her.
