The space elevator, if built, would be anchored at one end on the earth (which revolves once every 24 hours) and at the other end by a very massive satellite in geostationary orbit -- which also revolves once every 24 hours.

The altitude of the satellite is 22,700 miles above the earth, which is far below the Moon.

The space elevator has nothing to do with the Moon. The purpose is to gain Earth orbit not connect the Earth to the Moon.

One advantage of it is that launching of a spacecraft can be achieved without having to overcome gravity, and can be done in any direction desired just by waiting for the right time of day.
