In your preference for an independent, normal every day person for the presidency, you have forgotten the most essential qualification ie the capability and capacity to lead the country and more importantly,to be a leading light in the comity of all nations and international forums.Presidency of US is less than 20% for internal management and more than 80%for external participation and leadership. It's one of the most tedious job in the world today and freedom of speech and press within the country makes it almost a' non-do able' task. Therefore, a man with your kind of qualifications can not, firstly become a president and secondly.,even if he does, may not succeed.Your's is a highly desirable but extremely risky proposition. As in other things, days of simplicity are over in politics and world-affairs.Sorry if I have disappointed you but was driven to say some thing on a very interesting topic.

It depends on your country. Every country is different in terms of qualifications to be a president. The preference on eligibility on president qualifications can be seen in the existing leadership found under the survey of mensa tests
President Type A
This president is selected based on religious charisma, because the members of the parliment is using God to pull votes and they will find a human being never a God to sit on it after the election. However he is very particular about who is non-religion category and the selected religion category befor he cuts the country income cake and share back depending on the leader's personal generosity
President Type B
This president is selected because he monopolises GLCs in the country and whatever to do with basic needs like food water, waste treatment, transportation and shelter, all citizens will pay him, however he likes. He is your economy controller, therefore he becomes the President as the debt collector and nation market price manipulater up and down for all citizens
President C
This presidency is closed to the public for elections, they will choose blood related relatives to take over their seats only closing all professionals and intellectuals as their background advisors only and politics cannot be preeched in public or in university studies, however this president blood gets mixed with other races and end up mixed race President. However they are concerned of who marries who will become president kind of fairytale.
President D
Accountant, Professional, IT Expert, Doctors Lawyers, engineers this president has no phobias in calculations
and computer blogs however, they are expected to give good results in nations P&L and there will be no more stories to tell in the future about grandmother stories like supergrand, God, fairies, etc.. etc...

I would like to note two things. First is that voters want someone who has a track record of accomplishing things. Second I would like to point out that some of our best politicians were not born rich. For example Bob Dole was born into poverty during the great depression. Ronald Regan was not born into riches, nor was Bill Clinton. Just my two cents.

Jimmy Carter was a peanut farmer who became president. I feel the President Carter is a very intelligent person, however he was too decent of a person to succeed in Washington. Some people consider him to be one of our worst democratic presidents. I hate to hear this, as I feel that his true honesty, character and beliefs clashed with the dog eat dog of politics. He would have probably excelled if we had a kinder congress and senate.
So the answer to your question is actually, "Yes, if you want something bad enough you can usually achieve it, with hard work and determination." This is still America-even though sometimes it doesn't feel that way anymore.

The road to the presidency is never impossible to everyday people. One thing has to be shown here: if you have the will and the dedication, eventually other people will know and support you all the way even though you don't have money. I don't believe in a few Martin Luther Kings or other common man standing up for the peole.

Yes we can have a normal everday American take the White House.
Its called the 2nd American Revolution. Thats the only way a common American is ever gonna get in the White House.
And we would be better off for it too!

the presidency, like everything else, requires money.... cash dollars.. $$$$$
In order to get the money required to be president, a person MUST rely on others.. must completely sell out to the system, and gain monies they did not earn.
The end result, by default, is a total sell-out.... the system guarantees this.
Name any person who has gained power without selling out, and i will guarantee they have been shot.... John Lennon, Martin Luther King Jr., the dead Kennedy's, etc. etc. etc.
Nobody likes the truth.

Anyone savvy enough (and rich enough) to win a presidential election is not going to be a "normal, everyday person", no matter what party they're associated with.

I totally agree with you. I would love to see an independant not rich, but an everyday working someone, who can relate to the everyday people.
That would make a fine President, in my opinion.
I would love to see that happen. We can certainly pray for it.
