Inasmuch as the internet will last as long as humanity (we hope), and even afterward some server buried under the rubble somewhere may cache something of mine that was posted, am I an infinite being? Obviously, my physical being won't last forever, but if my thoughts and ideas are captured in the permanancy of the internet, does that make me timeless?
The best answer, for yes or no, gets the points. And you get to be infinite too!

Saying that everything ends when the sun goes nova is too easy. Imagine, people. Chaucer didn't have an internet yet he still survives. Wouldn't I do the same?

No but is proves that you were here, you existed, made a difference and your legacy will carry on. Thank you for touching our lives and sharing with us. It will always be with us in some small way for the fact that we had "met" you and shared with you. It will be a part of our existence for the rest of our lives as with everyone we meet and/or share with.

It's an interesting question...I just read something that said that even when the sun burns up the earth or something like that 5 billion years from now and human civilization has probably been gone for a while, there will still be radio waves being broadcast through space. So in a way, that's also infinite.
You wouldn't be infinite (sorry) because, eventually, the earth will get too hot for anything to live on, and it will eventually burn up (it has nothing to do with global warming, FYI) and whatever might be remaining of an internet sever will be gone along with the earth. Get your voice on the radio, and that's a different story....

Being a woman with no children, I don't have that feeling of continuing on after I'm gone. I am creative and it's possible that a song, or book or work of art will survive me. I do think the the answer about downloading our minds into robotic bodies will eventually happen and that we will be able to leave the planet before the sun goes nova. If there is a coming back in a different body after we die, we could also come back on a different planet. Anything is possible.

one could only wish but my answer would be not . u see everything has an end even our thoughts and while the Internet may make them last longer it will too one day be gone all together with all our information . perhaps a virus , perhaps someone reading ur thoughts and thinking this is not longer worth keeping and then erasing it .
i think that most of us would like to be eternal and yes the Internet is worth the shoot , to some it may be very important , some may not even care and be happy that way but those who do in fact do care do have the opportunity to say : this is who i was and this is what i wanted to give u all who may read what i wrote .

Forever is in time and space. If you were a great somebody, you would be remembered maybe for centuries, but not infinitely.

Sure. Stories of folks Myspace pages outliving their authors gives your argument some credence. Now when that rubble is incenerated in our Sun's change into a red giant and eventual supernova you and your data will be returned to the galactic dust from which you came star child.

What does "infinite" mean? You seem to be defining it as "timeless" and that certainly may be one way to define it. However, "timeless" is too vague. It is possible for something to be timeless without being infinite. And what about Aristotle's contention that it is impossible for an actual infinite to exist? Only potential infinites obtain. What you appear to be referencing are potential, not actual infinites.

What a thought! I believe in rebirth. So maybe in some next birth we may come back and track ourselves through the internet. What we were in the previous birth and what all we experienced. What a delightful thought! Star for you for coming up with an absolutely original thought...

Good question. I was going to answer no because nobody has as of yet invented the indestructable hard drive, but then I got to thinking of BETA tapes that have no been made into dvds by modern technology. Thanks to that technology, my naked baby behind from 27 years ago may now be seen and laughed at by my family 40 generations from now. Bastages.
