Yes there is. Next time you look at the enrollment preferences at university you will see why. People do not seem to want the challenge of rigor. They would rather take the easier, softer way of social science and humanities. Britain seems to be experiencing the same problem. Indians and Asians will fill these positions if Americans will nor.

Not really. Specific industries need specialists but that doesn't translate to scientist or engineer. Some specialties are in great demand.
