lucas john matthew is a wonderful name and i think that lj is a strong nickname for him
it's nice that you wish to honor your friend's memory by naming your son after him

I like Lucas John Matthew. My sister and step-brother both had 2 middle names. I like the idea and I think it is very special to give your son the name of a late loved one.

I'm all for having 2 middle names (I myself do) but only if it's for a good reason. It's nice you want to honor your friend, but simply adding another name to a long, generic name won't do much. If it was a family name or one that wasn't so typical, it would be different. But seriously, there's little difference between Lucas Matthew John and David Ryan Matthew and John Michael Ryan . . .all very typical and boring names.

I like Lucas John Matthew best I think... BUT it is up to you... And yes lots of people have two middle names.... AND like someone else said..you hardly ever use middle names So ... I say go for it... Keep the name you have wanted AND Honor your Friend's name...
Congrats for your Baby.. But I am sorry to hear about your friend. I wish you the best!

My step daughters name is Heidi Marie Ann - no hypen just 2 1st names...i also have a lot of family with more than one middle name....my brother was christened Samuel Raymond Charles after both grandfathers and the g-grandfather who were all living when he was born (dad was only boy of 8 kids, grandpa only boy of 6, so Sam got all of the names LOL)
Either of your choices would be ok but for me Matthew John (M.J.) Lucas flows better....
Best of luck with your little guy and whatever you choose is what will be the best name for him because it came from your hearts

I think it's really thoughtful, and very cute, both of your choices are adorable.
Personally i like the 2 first names. Or even the 2 middle names having:
Lucas (2middle names) John Matthew
Either way they are both cute, best of luck and congrats!

Having two middle names is just fine and a good way of respecting a deceased loved one. My neighbor has 2 middle names and it has never been a problem. No one has ever thought it strange. It kind of makes her name stand out a bit and its really special to her. I do however know a little who gave each of her kids 4 middle names. That is a little extreme. Can you imagine being a poor kindergartener and having to spell all that? Not only that but the extra names have no meaning because there are so many. But two is just fine.

Not at all. Our daughter (adopted) has her Ethiopian name as her first name, a name we gave her (Rebekah) and her second middle name is Kristina. In Ethiopia it is a cultural practice that the child take the firs name of the father as part of their name. My husband's name is Christopher, so we have used the feminine form of his name to stay with this tradition.
By the way, I think Lucas John is a great combination.

I like Lucas John Matthew, myself. And no, I don't think that is weird. I think it is great that you want to honor your friend. His name will actually MEAN something. It gets a little trickier to handle things like standardized tests with all the bubbles, but really, that is not such a big deal.
