I was just curious because I have heard that it is more likely the baby will survive being born at 7 months into a pregnancy than it is for them to be born at 8 months pregnant is this true? I know the safest way to go is all the way to the 40wks or at least get to 37wks but its just curiosity thats all. I just keep hearing it but no one can give me an explanation. I want to ask my Dr. but my appt. is on Friday so I was hoping maybe someone might know. thanks alot.

yeah i figured that the longer the baby stays in the womb the better chances of survival I have 3 kids already and I would hate to imagine them being born to early same w/this 4th one I'm having. I was just curious if anyone else has heard of this and I just heard it from random people and my mother in law but she doesn't really know as to how thats possible.

that is definitely not true. The closer you get to 40 weeks, the better for lung development. Babies born at seven months are much smaller and more likely to end up in the hospital for long periods of time because they can't regulate their body temperature as well or breathe as well as full term or even later term babies. Because they are smaller, there is also a greater risk for the umbilical cord to be wrapped around their necks, thus decreasing the survival rate in that aspect as well. However, with modern medicine, the chances that babies will not survive at the 7 OR 8 month mark are VERY slim.

No, I have not heard that. In fact, I've only heard that longer is better. The closer to the 40 weeks, the better chance the baby has than babies born prematurely.

It would make sense that way as well, as their bodies are still developing, so the more developed the baby is, the better its chances. My fiance worked with a man who's wife was only about 5 months along when their son was born. He remained in the hospital with multiple problems until he was nearly a year old. He was underdeveloped in many areas, which caused quite a few problems.

Definitely, the longer the better, 8 months is better than 7 months.

Well, I don't have much to say to you that will be of any use. I just ask though, do you not have any family that can help you out with this situation? In a situation like this, asking for financial help from family shouldn't really be anything to be ashamed of. Also, what about adoption? Abortion clearly is not right for you, and you know it. You should never go get an abortion if you're not comfortable with it. You are right, you will have to live with whatever decision you make for the rest of your life. You are at a crossroad, and whatever choice you make is going to affect you for the rest of your life. I am speaking because I've had an abortion. I am a lot younger than you though. But I knew it was what I wanted to do. I do know you should never do anything unless YOU want to do it, and should never just go with what other people want. There are a lot of single moms out there who make it happen. If you want to keep the baby this badly, all I have to say is you will find a way. Plenty of single moms out there find a way somehow. You will probably have to take up a second job or change your life in some way clearly, since your income now isn't good. Idk. Like I said, not much to say. I'm sorry you've ended up in this situation. Things just happen sometimes though, ya know? I didn't plan on getting pregnant either when I did. Don't get the abortion if you don't want to. And if this guy doesn't want to be a part of it, you really shouldn't force him. That's just gunna make it more stressful on you in the long term. Just let him go and do what he wants. You are a strong woman. You are a strong person. You will find a way, everyone does. It's not the end of the world. I wish you luck. Sorry I didn't have anything better to say.

No. It would definitely be better for the baby to be born at 8 months than 7. The baby grows and develops a lot during the last few months, so every day counts! I had my daughter prematurely at 7 months. During the weeks before she was born, the doctors just tried to get me through each day because they said the longer I could hold out and not have her, the better it would be for the baby. I have a healthy 8 year old girl now.

From what I've been told it is true.

I was told at 8 months a baby is at it's most critcal time in the womb and is closer to being born. At 7 months the baby is still developing a little more but is close enough whereas the baby will survive.

That's just what I was told... don't know if it's true or not and not really eager to try it out.

No. Every moment the baby is in the womb is a better chance of it living outside the womb. A baby born at 8 months has a better chance than a baby born at 7. Unless there is a medical reason, they will usually stop any labor before the 37th week.

I dont know who told you that, but it doesnt make sense to me. Even at 8 months the babies lungs may not be fully developed, so at 7 months the chances of your baby having problems is even greater. Pre-term babies may experience a variety of health problems, and have a lower survival rate.As a rule of thumb, the later that a baby is born, the better her chances for survival. Babies who are born at 24 weeks of pregnancy have about a 50% survival rate.Babies born at 28 weeks do much better, with about an 80% survival rate. Babies who are born after 32 weeks have a much higher rate of survival; some studies suggest that this is in the 90% and above range. In addition to gestational age, the larger that the baby is when it is born increases its chances of survival. Babies who weigh between 1.1 and 1.5 pounds have a survival rate around 40%; babies between 1.5 and 2.2 pounds have a survival rate of about 70%.

You have your facts backwards. It is safer to have a baby at 8mos than at 7mos. The longer the baby is in there, the more developed the lungs will be & the more likely the baby will be able to survive on its own after birth. A baby born during the 7th month will require NICU and may not be able to come home when the mother is released from the hospital.

The longer it stays in the womb the better. These days though with all the technology, babies can be born quite early and still survive. Dont try to focus on this it will upset you and the baby and still keep your appointment on Friday and talk to the Doc.... Good luck with your baby xx

Of course that's not true!

Then longer that the baby is in the womb the better their chance of survival is. The lungs are the last part of the baby's body to develop. I have a friend who had her daughter at 36 weeks, and her daughter passed away because of poor lung development.
