One treatment for snoring is to change sleeping positions. If you sleep on your back exclusively, your tongue may partially block your airway and cause a form of snoring. Try sleeping on your side or stomach for a few days to see if your snoring is reduced or eliminated. If you absolutely cannot change your sleeping position, a sleep clinic may be able to provide a device used by sleep apnea patients. A face mask is fitted over the mouth and nose as a gentle but steady supply of air keeps the airway open.
Some snorers find relief through over-the-counter sprays and breathing strips. If the root cause of your snoring is an involuntary closing of your throat and soft palate, a lubricating spray can be applied directly to the back of your mouth just before bedtime. The slippery nature of the spray should prevent any unpleasant noises from friction. Others find relief with the use of adhesive breathing strips. Some snoring is causes by restricted nasal passages, so these external strips gently hold the nostrils open during sleep.
Since there is a link between excessive weight and excessive snoring, one solution may be to lose weight through diet and exercise. Even if reaching an ideal size seems impossible, losing just 10 to 20 percent of your current body weight may reduce the intensity and frequency of snoring.
For severe snoring which cannot be addressed by over-the-counter treatments or a change in lifestyle, consult a trained sleep specialist. Overnight observation and thorough medical examination may be required to find the root cause of your condition. Many snorers actually suffer from sleep apnea, a serious medical problem which causes the body to wake up hundreds of times a night. If your snoring pattern consists of an extended silence followed by a very loud gasp for air, you may have a form of sleep apnea. Sleep deprivation can lead to a number of other mental and physical conditions, so seek treatment immediately.

Snoring is actually precipitated by eating or drinking substances that the person is addicted to and therefore actually intolerant of.
The snorer needs to avoid the food or drink that is causing the problem and they will no longer snore.
Often snoring is caused by alcohol and also by bread or dairy food. However any food can be the precipitator.
My grandson was a bad snorer until he was taken off all dairy food.
My mother snores badly because she eats bread which she is addicted to.
The food/drink that the snorer doesn't want to give up or feels they can't, is the cause of their snoring. Prevention is much better than cure!

You can try Breathe Right bandaid type of snoring aid...they help open up the nostrils and thus minimizing the snoring sound, if that doesn't work then it might require a minor operation of taking the excess cartilage or skin on the inside of the nose which is causing the breathing obstruction which could be causing the snoring.

I used to be a very loud snorer! Everyone in my family complained!
I felt bad; it wasn't like I was trying to wake everyone else up!
I finally listened to my M.D., got tested for sleep apnea and found I had a severe case.
I bought a cpap machine off Craig's List and a great new nasal pillow on eBay (my health insurance doesn't cover anything on sleep apnea).
I no longer snore; I sleep great and wake up refreshed. My family sleeps better and can't believe how much less grouchy I am!
You may or may not have sleep apnea, but it is worth looking into, just to Rule Out if nothing else!
Good luck!

Hi Anna Louise - 60, even though a bad snorer may sound like a motorboat speeding over the waves, the truth is that snoring is caused by obstructed breathing, and obstruction can lead to serious problems. Simple changes, such as losing weight or sleeping on your side, can help as well as more drastic measures such as surgery. The following is a list of some of the best treatments to help with snoring problems. Please look article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Treatments_To_Stop_Snoring_Now/

There are nasal strips you can buy probably at any pharmacy, they go over the nose and apparently they help wonders to open the nasal passages to help you breathe more clearly and hopefully snore less. Hope this helps :)
