The interesting thing about Yankees fans is that they only dwell in the past. I'm speaking for all the Redsox fans I know when I say that there completely sick of hearing "WE have 26 rings, we're better than you. You only have 6. Yankees are better."
The Boston Celtics have 16 rings, by far the most in the history of the NBA. There are no Celtics fans proclaiming them as the greatest team just because they have 16 rings to say the Cavs 0.
If you hear a 49ers fan tell you that the 49ers are the best because they have won 12 NFL championships (Some before the merger), you would call them crazy.. WELL.
The same is true in hockey. The Montreal Canadiens have 24 rings. Their fans don't think there the best team because of that, nor is it any reason to like the team.
I don't understand how saying we were better far in the past is a reason to brag about your team. I've taken crap from people recently about Bucky Dent, Aaron Boone, etc. HELLO! do any yankees fans know what happened in 2004? And they still won't shut their ******* trap. Last time I checked, the Bosox won the World Series in 2004, and the Yankees haven't since '00 when they had Paul O'Neill, David Justice, Scott Brosious, Chuck Knoblach, etc.
This just shows how ignorant, arrogant and just dumb New York Yankees fans are.

One: yes it is a money issue any idiot knows the Yankees spend way more money than any other team
Two: the Yankees in recent years have had the bad habit of over-paying over the hill players (Damon) and thats why they get red sox players (which even still doesnt happen that often, there really haven't been that many players in recent years traded between the two)

It has nothing to do with "the fans getting it". former Red Sox players who go to the Evil Empire do so for one reason. CASH!
Sure, they "want to win" too, but who are we kidding? George has the BIGGEST payroll and the BIGGEST open wallet. Players play for the cash. Look at Damon. Mr. "I'll never play for the Yankees", he left Boston for what? 3 million a year? Petty cash.
What's really funny is the way you put the question. Who cares how many championships the MFY's won prior to your and my life. How many they had since 2000? 0 And you better get used to 0, cause it ain't changing this year. Red Sox number since 2000 is going to 2 this year.

Go Red Sox!

The Diamondbacks, Angels, Marlins, Red Sox, White Sox and Cardinals all have more titles in this millenium than the Yankees. What players have gone over to the dark side of the force besides Roger Clemens (Duquette's fault), Damon (you can have him) and Mike Myers (he's with the White Sox now).

i don't know who has jumped ship.
clemens left because of our idiot GM.
damon left because he knew how overrated he is and knew that he wouldn't get a chance at a contract like that ever again.
myers left as well but i don't know of anyone in boston who cares about that.
as for all the yanks championships and pennants, who cares? any real sports fan knows that what has happened in the past is in the past. just because a team was the 10 years ago doesn't mean they're still the best.
look at the cardinals, world series champions last year and now they're 67-66, 2 games out and probably not making the playoffs.
the buffalo bills made 4 straight superbowls in the 90's, does that make them the best football team now? no
the celtics destroyed everyone back when bird mchale and parrish were playing, but does that mean the celtics are the best basketball team now? no

you either meant the Yankees and got the team name wrong
or you meant the red sox and got the numbers wrong.
Edit: Its all good.
I think it is an honor for any MLB player to play for the Yankees.
We may not always win, but we sure have won more than anyone in the league.
