"Cleaning" your cookies will not speed-up your computer.
Cookies are just small .txt (text) files that by themselves cannot hurt your computer. Cookies are "set" by almost every website that you visit, on every visit. You can delete all your cookies today and by tomorrow you will have dozens again just by visiting websites.
Cookies are NOT a virus.
Cookies do NOT slow down a computer, at least the first million or so that you might have on your computer!
Children are the people that are always the most nervous about cookies. Because cookies are an easy way for Mommy and Daddy to find out exactly what their darling 'lil B@$^@rd$ have been looking at on the web.
Personally, If I happen to remember it, I will delete my cookies every 6 months or so :-)
Just don't delete any cookies for websites that you have forgotton the password for. Without cookies you will need to sign-in again until the site generates a new cookie.
Cookies are much ado about nothin'.

Cookies are not necessarily a bad thing. For example...if you sign into a website like yahoo with your name and password...it gets stored on your computer as a cookie, so the next time you go to yahoo, you won't have to enter in your login information. If you want to get rid of them and you are using Internet explorer go to tools, Internet options, delete cookies. But most likely something else is slowing down your computer...like programs loading at start up....

I use a free program called AD-Aware SE. You can get it at www.download.com or the Lavasoft website. There is also an upgraded version that you pay for. It has been a very reliable program and I will probably end up paying for the full version. It will find and delete Cookies and other similar problems.

at the top of the web browser, click "tools" then a drop-down menu should appear. then click "options..." then click "show cookies". From there, you can view your cookies then delete individual ones or clear all of them.
NOTE: the following instructions are based upon Mozilla Firefox, but should work with internet explorer or any other internet surfer as well.

Use this program... http://www.ccleaner.com/ ... it will clean your cookies, temp internet files, and many many other things that slow down your computer. It is a highly recommended FREE program that has gotten quite a few rewards from PC magazines. You should try to use it every 3-4 weeks to help your computer.

If you have internet explorer,
you click on the top where it says "Tools."
Then you click "Delete Browsing History."
After that, you click "Delete Cookies."
Finally, you click "Yes."
And it deletes it.
