I would suggest, being a girl myself, that you should try and not say anything that could make her upset. Another tip is not take most things she says too seriously. When its time for me i can get very moody, and i mean really moody at home, mostly when my sister is around. We get into catfights over something as simple as the seating arrangement at the table. She nearly broke my neck!
Anyway depends on how moody she is, If she can change very quickly and it scares you i would suggest you talk it out with your girlfriend about it.
I know a story where a woman killed, was it her boyfriend or husband, because of her period.She was charged with murder, in later years when it was discovered that it was not her fault really but to do with a chemical reaction in her brain because of her period.
Sorry if i scared you, But my best advised for you would be stay clear.

Give her chocolate. Everything is better with chocolate. And also give her some space, girls need that when they're on their period. But always be close by, just in case. Girls don't like being deserted either.
