I looked, the conversion is not on the website another answerer provided. The conversion actually varies according to the API gravity of the oil, which really complicates matters. Tonne is also known as a metric ton, or 2205 lbs, or 1000 kg. This is not the same as a ton, also known as a short ton, or a long ton. The reason the two numbers are difficult to convert is that barrels are strictly a measure of volume, while metric tons are a measure of weight. My Petreolum Reference Dictionary gives the following factor: 1 metric ton = 7.454 barrels of oil at 36 degrees API. so, 1 million metric tons would equal 7.454 Million barrels, or 0.007454 Billion barrels (US usage for billion= 1,000 x 1,000,000)

For ninth grade, that's quite good. There are quite a few science graduates who are not interested in looking at global warming in a scientific way. I can see the point in quoting the amount of CO2 compared to the mass of the Earth. Alarmists are constantly proclaiming the quantity of CO2 produced looks like a big number. What isn't scientific is to claim that CO2 must be significant because some statistic looks like a big number. Al Gore used the "this looks like a big number" idea when he drew a graph that's so high that he needed a scissor lift to point to the top. What is more important is the amount of CO2 released compared to the total amount of atmosphere. What you've done is say - I can quote big numbers too, it doesn't proove anything. I'm pretty sure Dana would want anyone who disagreed with his beliefs to get and F. Perhaps you haven't scientifically proven all your ideas, but the IPCC certainly don't back up their claims with evidence and these people should know better because they are supposed to be professional.

1 ton /kg = 1000kg/kg = 1000 = 10^3
so 10^3 = 1 ton/kg
1 million = 10^6 = (1/10^3)*10^6
= 10^3 = 1000
so 1million = 1000 ton/kg

1000000 = x tonnes/kg
is "tonnes" metric? if so
1000000 = x 1000 kg / 1 kg
x = 0.001
if "tonnes" is English
1000000 = x 2000 lb / 2.2 lb
x = 500 * 2.2 = 1100
