What is a Serial & PS-2 PCI Adapter?

what is a Serial & PS-2 PCI Adapter and what are they used for. I am purchasing a new computer and an option is to add this to the system

Forget that option. It is just for those who still want to hook up old peripherals with interface that are becoming obsolete.

That has to be "WORST OPTION EVER!" lol. ps/2 ports are the old mouse ports before everybody moved to usb and Serial ports predate that by a decade.. Back in the windows 3.1 days that is how mice connected and you had to use IRQ ports and such to make it work. Unless you are trying to connect hideously old equipment... don't bother.
