my friend has a blackberry ..yet when i go online to purchase one it says that there is no service in my area?...ive always been confused about this...can i buy any phone online and use it in my area?...

It is a radio. There has to be an antenna within range to supply the signal. There has to be one owned by the people who supply the service or who have a roaming arrangement.

nonono. by service they mean carriers. like sprint, t-mobile, rogers, telus, etc. right? well certain phones will not work on other networks. for example you cannot use a telus phones on rogers network. so you are visiting the wrong website, search other websites from north america. make sure if you order any phone make SURE that it is a GSM phone. if it is not a GSM phone it will not work on your t-mobile, rogers, sprint, amp'd anything like that. goodluck. p.s if you go to your local phone store like rogers t-mobile sprint anything like that just buy one from there, way less hassel and then you will know for sure that it will work on that network
