We have a 2002 ford windstar. We had the codes checked and we were told that it was 2 of the downstream O2 sensors. We changed those, and still the van is chugging really bad. Does this mean that we need to change spark plugs??? If so, which ones or do all of them need to be changed?? Is there anything else that could be causing the problem?? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

you really want to make sure you changed the correct O2 sensors, your van has 4 I believe.

hook up your obd-2 scanner, erase the codes, and if the light comes back on, find out what those codes are and see what the computer think is or still is wrong.

the plugs should last you about 80,000 miles.
if they are original, time to change them out.

An O2 sensor code does not mean change the sensors. There are some really stupid "mekaniks" out there. A sensor is just that, it senses a malfunction and tells you by turning on the check engine light. There are several other sensors on the engine. If you get the check engine lite on and it tells you about a sensor don't change the ssensor, solve the problem. In your case, with both down stream sensors reporting (by the way, down stream means after the cat, converter) and your engine being sluggish I would suggest your cat. converters are failing. a 2002 may still be under warranty or recall, better check with your dealer service dept.

greater beneficial than possibly an o2 sensor situation. Now with regard to the engine lacking, this may be from many countless issues, plugs, coils, etc. i could have the persons who scanned your motor vehicle provide you the honestly code, that way you are able to reference it on line and carry out a little added examine. besides the undeniable fact that, to maintain the difficulty i could in basic terms throw yet another o2 sensor in there and see what it does. solid success

Well rthe sensors are done--get a complete check up and see if a tune up is recommended--no way a vehicle will last forever--so get to a garage abnd see if there is any other stuff to do. Let a pro do it--the cars today are not for backyard mechanics--you could have screwed up the sensors and the system is still bad. Might be wires to the plugs--anything at all.
