The reason education seems to be in decline is because of a cultural shift toward anti-intellectualism and materialism, especially in inner city areas where students struggle the most. Essentially it's no longer "cool" to do well in school. Many of these kids don't WANT to learn and are just counting down the days until they legally drop out of school and begin their quest for wealth and status. The issue isn't how much teachers are paid, it's WHICH teachers are being paid. Good, passionate teachers deserve good salaries. You wouldn't hire a $2 lawyer when your kids future is on the line. Same should apply to teachers. We need higher standards for teachers and we need to incentivize the good ones to help inner city schools where they are needed the most. And most importantly, we as a society need to make books "cool" again.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. This is highly dependent on the country. In the USA with a degree it will vary from $50-100k depending on experience and years of service. The number of jobs has decreased unless you are willing to go to Asia or Central America.
