Why isn't the price of gas $1.70 instead of being listed as $1.69.9?

Psycological. You think you are paying less when in fact you aren't. Just like when a salesman says, "This car is only $1995"......he never says, One-thousand nine hundred and ninety-five dollars. It makes you think in the thousands, so they say, only 1995. Most people will leave off the word "dollars" also. It's just psychological.

Geeeeeeeez, Like No Body knew that one !!!!!!! Then why don't they just stop that crap and make it what the price is ?

Another question I have, is I have seen their Delivery Trucks refilling their underground tanks. Why the driver is doing that the gas may say , $2.75.9 per gallon. Now I can go back tomorrow to that same Gas Station and say the Price per gallon went down to say $2.70.9. That's good , Huh ?

Well, say, I did fill up on the second day and I drive by the same Gas Station and I see that gas went up to $2.90.9 per gallon . Then the 3rd day it goes down only % Cents and then the 4th day it goes back up 10 Cents.

If that gas that was pump in their under ground tanks on day one came in at one price, then how in the HELL can it go down then back up 25 Cents and the down 5 Cents then back up 15 Cents. ???????

I know the Oil price for Crude goes up and down everyday on the Stock Market but Dam, I can't ever get an explanation on the above THAT is what makes me Boil .

What say YOU ? Please OPINE ! :)

Nowadays, with the value of 1 cent, it really does not make any sense. It began because 19.9 cents sounds cheaper than saying 20 cents (I used to pump more than 150,000 gallons of gasoline for 19.9 cents a gallon.)
Storekeepers do this all the time: hamburger 99 cents in lieu of $1.00; a chair for $99.99 in lieu of $100.00, and so forth. Most people focus on $99, thinking it sounds much less than $100.
That is the idea.

to make it look cheaper than it is and also because they can give you less gas if they don't round up.
