Every other number is a progression of 4

4,8,12 and so forth...

then your second and fourth numbers as well are a progression. of 4......12, 16, also so the next number is 20.regard the two as a separate series, and insert every other number into the pattern

I believe the pattern is like this.

Add 8 , then subtract 4.

4 + 8 = 12
12 - 4 = 8
8 + 8 = 16
16 - 4 = 12
Therefore I would say that the next number would be 20, for 12 + 8 = 20.

I hope this has answered your question.
