|y| = 4-x does represent y as a function of x.

y = -75 does not represent y as a function of x.

In the statement, | y | = 4 - x

it is possible for all values of x, x is a real number.

but to get y = -75, it doesn't say | y | = -75, if it is in this case, it is not possible because the absolute value of any number is always possitive.

so y = -75 is possible given that x = 79.
