l9-xl if x<9

i've been wreckin my brain tryin to solve this prob. it have something to do with neg and pos rules. and this is a precal problem.

since x<9, 9 - x > 0
so if x<9 l9-xl = 9 - x

If x is less than 9 then "9 minus x" will always be greater than 0. Even if x has a large negative value, like -300
then 9 - (-300) = 9 + 300 = 309 (still positive).

Therefore, the absolute sign is not needed IF x < 9.

I do not know how one could then "simplify" the expression even more
