This is an example of kinesis. Taxis is movement by an organism in response to a directional stimulus, such as insects flying towards lights. Kinesis is very similar to taxis, except that the stimulus is not directional. In the case of isopods, they have an increased rate of movement and turning in drier environments and a decreased rate of motion in wetter environments. They don't actively move towards the moisture, so it's not directional (and therefore not a taxis), but the changes in behavior do result in the isopods accumulating in wetter areas. This is advantageous because isopods need to conserve moisture in their bodies due to their great risk of death by dessication. If you've ever seen a dead, dried up pillbug rolled up in a ball, you know how real that risk is.
