My wife and I celebrated our 1st the day before I was set to deploy over seas. We had very little money, we rode the ferry from Bremerton ($1.50 back then) to Seattle and we spent the day walking up down waterfront and up to Pike Place Market. As a child I used to go to Seattle all the time with my family but she had never been there. We had a great time and at the end of the day we only spent $5-$6 total. Some of the other things we have done really cheap (1st few yrs were rough) one year we had a pic-nic in the park that we got married at. I remember 1 year we spent less than $10 on wine, block cheese, and french bread. We barricaded ourselves in our apartment, turned off the phone and lights and just nibbled on cheap bread, cheese and wine just talking about our past and future dreams. These a days we usually celebrate by going out or traveling which is fun, but I wouldn't mind one of our low budget celebrations again. Just make it fun...you don't have to have big parties or expensive presents...all you need is each other. Have a great anniversary!!

My 8th wedding anniversary is coming up and we haven't had any money for any of our anniversaries! Last year he took me to Starbucks for a coffee after he cooked me dinner. Our first anniversary was spent at home on our couch with our infant son. We ate spaghetti (that I cooked) and we watched a movie (we borrowed from the neighbor) and had popcorn. We then went to bed and had an amazing night. We have done chinese food while sitting on a blanket on our living room floor with candles everywhere. We are lucky enough to live in the St. Louis area (our Zoo is free) so we packed up the kids and lunch and headed to the Zoo for a day! Each year its been great, even without money cause I'm with him. I say do whatever makes you smile. For our 5th anniversary my mom sent us a package, it had popcorn and a gift card to a grocery store (note said it was for whatever drinks we wanted) and a DVD copy of our wedding so we sat and watched that and ate popcorn and drank a few beers. LOL it was great. Just have fun and be creative. Remember that just being together is the best way to spend the anniversary. You don't need money to have a good time!! Good luck!! CONGRATS on your anniversary and I hope there are many more happy years to come!!

Sweet Pea I have had 9 of these anniversaries with no money but made time to spend with each other. We for instance took an inexpensive trip to the lake and had a real romantic picnic, we also had a candle light diner at home with some wine and a good old home cooked meal, and we had a nice warm bubble after wards. You just have to find what will work for you both, times are hard but time spent with each other is priceless. God bless!

Pack a picnic lunch and head to your local park and do some hiking.
Invite some friends/family over to help celebrate and make it a barbecue where everyone brings a dish to share.
Get your favorite take out meal, rent a movie and snuggle up for a quiet relaxing evening.
Depending on where you live, take a scenic drive through a surrounding area. Just type "scenic drives" for _______ into Google and see what's out there.
Happy Anniversary :)

We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary at a very nice hotel in Ocean City Maryland (the beach). We went to a really nice dinner and I took our cake, our unity candle (along with a ton of other candles, and I even used my wedding night lingerie. The hotel gave us a bottle of Champagne and a dozen red roses.

Make cards for each other.
Plan a picnic with paper plates and cups. If you saved any of these items from your wedding shower or reception, use them!
Print tickets for a movie night and watch your wedding video.

Just spending time together is important. Money isn't always the issue it's the love for each other. My first is coming soon too and I hope whether or not we have money, things will be sweet and simple.

been there done that - 20 years ago we were broke college students on our first. My wife bought two 99 cent cans of whipped cream one for me, one for her. We spent our entire anniversary in the bed room emptying those to cans of whipped cream. Sex is the cheapest and most rewarding fun you can have.
