Yes you can, but it can ONLY be used to store files that YOU have personally created (documents, photo's, etc.).

Software and other programs can be downloaded to it, but you can not move OS directories and files to the other drive.

The drive that has OS files on it is called the "master" drive, any other added drives are called "slave" drives.

If you have two hard drives, one is used for the OS. What the other is used for can be anything from nothing but backup to a lot more complicted than that. Formatting the drive simply wipes it clean. This doesn't save disk space, but does make additional space available so that items presently being stored on your main drive can be moved to your secondary drive. Whether you can do this depends on what that second drive is being used for at present.

No, it will not save disk space.

It will provide free up disk space for more storing files.

Do not format the drive which has your operating system and make sure you do not have any important data on the drive you wish to format - it wll be lost.

The drive you format (not the one with your operating system) can be compressed.

CAUTION: Compressing a drive makes writing to and accessing from that drive slower.

Also, if the drive developes errors, it is harder to recover data. All could be lost.

Good Luck.

Yes you can. Just don't format the primary. :)
