There are a lot of things that i personally think that are important in a relationship 1# communication 2# trust # responsibility4# commitment 5#comprising 6# love.I could go on and on but i won't. i believe that all of things ingredients are very important in any relationship and with any one of these missing your relationship will be missing something that might be the glue to it.

I hope you aren't looking for just one thing that is important. There are so many things that are key in a strong relationship.

Love obviously
Trust
Honesty
Integrity
Friendship
Communication
Loyalty
Honor
Desire (not just for sex but desire to be with that person and spend time with them)
Common beliefs and goals

I don't think I can narrow it down to one most important thing. It's like every important thing in a relationship is a card in deck. You build a house of cards with them. You can't build it with just one or two. Take one card out and the house crumbles to the ground

Trust absolutely!
If you don't trust them, you won"t open up and share your thoughts and feelings, so there goes communication.
If you don't trust them you will not feel that you can commit your life and love to them, so there goes committment.
How can you respect someone that you do not trust?
Bottom line is always TRUST!
