If so, what is the point? If you were not looking for love and had given up, then why you even bother?

It seems like a cruel joke for it to work that way.

You don't go out dating-shopping like you'd buy a car. You go out living. You do stuff you love to do, and, in the process, you will meet other people who love to do the same. In other words, get out there. But don't go out JUST to meet someone. Go out because you love hanging out with your friends, or dancing, or listening to jazz, or taking classes. The reason to be 'out there' is to be living a full life.

I don't know... Maybe if people put as much effort into love and dating as they do buying a car the divorce rate wouldn't be so high.
