Could some other organism from some other planet faaaar far away, farther than our telescopes or robots could reach, somehow find us, and come to us in some "spaceship".. and appear for a while, and then leave without a trace?

I mean, it can't even be PROVEN.

And don't they have to breathe or.. live off of something? And why would they come to earth.. if they won't even communicate with "humans" or other organisms on earth.. if that's basically the only special thing ABOUT earth in the first place.

Sure, it's possible, but highly unlikely that such a visit could have occurred anywhere in the last 60 years without our knowledge. These beings would almost certainly use technology which would emit some kind of EMR. It would be distinctive. We would be able to detect it probably years before their arrival.

But barring all that, an expedition could fly by here and make themselves hard to detect. Such a visit has never been documented. Bmorgan, DearAbby, and magnetic, sorry, but you are dreamers who believe that because you find something entertaining to think about, it must exist. It is a dumb solipsism to say that anything can exist because we can think about it. And everything is *not* possible. And even though we are probably not alone in the Universe, it may be true that life is rare and so widely separated as to make travel improbable. And all of this supposed UFO activity in our own skies, but not so much as a tinkle of intelligent radio transmission from *anywhere* in the history of our research of the heavens. Optimism should be tempered by knowledge of the facts.

As a statistician, I can say that any question beginning with "is it possible..." is dangerous.

A person must answer "yes" unless that person has absolute proof that the answer is "no".

Is it possible that you'll get hit by a meteorite three minutes after reading this answer? yes it is. And we'll have to wait 3 minutes to know if the correct answer could have been no.

Unless we know that you were sitting inside a bunker, very deep under the Rockies... then we'd have proof that meteorites could not reach you.

Or could they?

So,
Is it possible that any of the UFO sightings are real?
Yes it is.
Unless you can PROVE that it is not.

However, the probability that some UFO sightings are in relation to vehicles that visit Earth from astronomical distances, is very small. I am not yet willing to bet my next paycheck.

It takes a lot of energy to travel large distances. It does not matter how advanced you are, the laws of physics still apply.

As for the breathing or living part: we ourselves are sending probes to other planets in our system (and a couple of probes that are moving out of our system). Probes do not need to breathe and they can get their energy from radioactive generators (good for thousands of years) or from solar panels (we just need the probe to work in a solar system with a suitable star). Some are very automated and do not need to be controlled by us (at least, not all the time).

And the senders do not have to be that far away. A civilization on a planet a mere 12 light-years away (right next door in astronomical terms) could easily go undetected even by our best telescopes.

However, I do not see why, having spent all that energy, they would not at least leave a postcard... After all, we are already annoying them with our radio and TV signals.

Well, the expanded for of UFO is Unidentified Flying Object, so I'd say all UFO sightings are real. On to the real question: the answer is Yes.
One can only quess at the motives of an alien visitor, because but quite directly, they are alien to us, in every concievable way.
Breathing and consuming are things all earth live does, but, one can only imagine the body fuctions of life from other worlds. It's possible we have found life on mars and don't even realise it. And finally, you make the assumtion that they haven't communitcated with entities on earth... We don't know that.... be barely even understand our languages let alone those of other animals.....

I say NO.

I do believe life exists on other planets, but they are soooooo far away (a ridiculas distance), it seems impossible for life to exist for the amount of time it would take to get here (not to mention limited resources too).

Some people believe that aliens can move at the speed of light. Humans know that the only thing that moves that fast is energy. Since life is made mostly of matter, it cannot move that fast. You can turn matter into energy (so that it could move that fast), but we know you can never turn energy back into matter and obtain the same results as when you started.

We know that the closest planet to our solar system is about 10.5 light years away. Thats about 6.172 X 10^13 miles!! This is way to far for a living creature to travel then live, and I base this on the time it takes to get here plus the limited amount of resources it could possibly have on its "spaceship".

relating to your question: "Is it possible that any of the UFO sightings are real?", I would say yes. a good example, is the picture taken at Buffalo city many years back. the photo is taken in blank/white. witness says when the ufo fly pass, every electrical/mechanical device when nuts. At that time (i think in the early 1900), it is difficult to fake these ufo sighting as USA then have yet the technology to manufacture jet fighter that can mimic the ufo visitors.

I think it is almost certain that there is life out there somewhere. I think it is also almost certain that none of that life has ever visited here. The distances between the stars are just too vast, and it takes too long to travel, and there are soooooo many possible places to go.

So if by 'real' you mean 'alien', then no, I don't think any UFO sightings are real aliens.

Im not talking about unidentified objects like kite or etc. Im reffering to UFO's from other planets of another galaxy/civilization that are capable of travelling here on earth using technology that is way more advance that we could imagine.

The bible didnt mention if there's life out there or none because the Bible is mostly about our relationship with each other and with our faith with God..So theres a gazillion possibility that theres life out there, hence the planets in the universe are more than the grains of sand here on earth.

Actually, I call them IFO's now. [alien space-craft] because they are now identified and some of them had crashed on earth and they had been here around 1940's since they were 1st spotted but government & military coverup is still present claiming UFOs as to be weather ballons or etc.

NOW THATS STUPID. do you think the government can just deny it easily and tell the public that nothing is up there? with millions of people that actually saw it, took pictures and etc?..

WE ARE NOT STUPID.

And yea, dont forget Feb 24,1942. Remember the 1942 los-angeles attack?.. military officials fired at UFO's, it was like a bunch of UFOs . The military claimed it to be UFO's at first. then the next day, it was published in the newspaper that it was a weather ballon.???.Over 1400 rounds of shell cant drop that weather ballon.FTW.. get outta here.:)

Possible - yes of course. With all billions of stars one would have think that there could be life on one of thier orbiting planets, and that they have come to visit us.
However, the likelyhood of such a 'visit', given the vast distances that would have to be travelled is very very ubnlikely indeed. Why, given the effort to come here would they just fly around to 'spook' us?

If we couldn't see them then they couldn't see us.
The nearest stars that could support life are just too far away.
There is sure to be life on other planets but we,ll never know.
I am extremely doubtful that Earth has been visited by alien spacefarers.

UFOs by definition are "unidentified flying objects".
As soon as you identify them as spacecraft piloted by intelligent extraterrestrials they are no longer UFOs, they are IFOs (identified flying objects).

As for whether aliens are visiting Earth, its possible but unlikely. There is no scientific proof, no evidence that is studied independantly, no artifacts or anything else to suggest that these are nothing more than hoaxes or misunderstood natural phenomenon.

So they could be aliens, but there is no proof.
And rational thinking people are skeptical until there is proof; believing in aliens just because its fashionable or comforting is not scientific.
