...if a Democrat were President? Could a President Hillary Clinton or a President Barak Obama have persuaded the North Koreans to abandon their nuclear ambitions?
Isn't there some advantage to having a mad man, a loose cannon, a reckless cowboy in the White House?
And aren't Democrats just terribly WEAK on National Security issues?

Democratic and UN diplomacy is AWESOME! Just look at the amazing job they've done in Kosovo in just 8 years! Actually, don't. But look at how well things went after the Dems pulled funding and support from the South Vietnamese government, not a person hurt. Oh wait, nevermind that. Forget I said that!
Oh wait, I got it! If Hillary was President Kim Jong Il would have dismantled the nuclear program immediately after Hil offered to give the guy a hug. *full body shiver* That's scary to even joke about.
edit: Hey didn't the awesome Dems give North Korea nuclear reactors as part of their awesome diplomacy skills? AWESOME!!!

The Clinton Administration was doing the appeasement thing and he was a moderate Democrat. With the current crop of ultra radicals, I'd have to say no. Certainly not a fake like Kerry or the full of himself Gore. However, President Bush's approach was to isolate northern Korea and that didn't work either. Progress happened only when Condoleezza Rice took over the Dept of State. President Bush did not trust Sec't Powell and Rice had his ear so the end result was she was able to enact the policies that General Powell would have liked to. Like most Presidents, President Bush had to learn as he went and his desire to be loyal to his underlings impeded needed changes early on but as his initial advisors attritted away, he picked much more capable people and things have been steadily improving.

What makes you think they will really dismantle their entire nuclear program? They've lied about every agreement they've made. They'll simply do something publicly to look like they're dismantling, but they will continue a parellel program in secret while we give them millions of dollars in aid and energy to prop up their bankrupt economy. And when the times comes for a conflict with South Korea, they will unleash their nuclear weapons on South Korea and Japan. Surprise!

hillary is just another jimmy carter with her husband's face there is no way she'd be able to get anything done just look at her husband's atempt at the north korean menace. he gave kim jong evil a basketball. so kim gave us an empty promise and a nuke test

The Democrats are especially strong when it comes to good relations with the rest of the world. It was multilateral efforts that got the agreement with North Korea, in spite of, not because of, Bush's deficiencies.
By the way, there HAD been an agreement with them made unilaterally by the Clinton Administration. North Korea abrogated it BECAUSE of Bush's cowboy, loose cannon style.

i think it was just a waiting game, they were starving and freezing to death, becoming more desparate than anything!!!
so what if they had a few nukes, who doesnt, and mostly everyone else has got lots more!!!

Under Bush we had 9/11. bin Laden knew Bush would not be able to read and understand that Aug 6 PDB.
Maybe if the cons didn't spend so much time with foot tapping in public bathrooms we wouldn't be in the mess we are in.
