I've done both and I will never stay on the strip again. I LUV the old Vegas... Fremont Street and the area. You can always go to the strip to see a show or hang out for an evening, but the best deals and the best goofy free Vegas shows are off the strip.

I stayed on the Strip for years and years.
The last time I was there I stayed downtown at the golden Nugget.
It was less crowded and I thought was really nice.
Of course I still visited the hotels on the Strip..
I love it there. it's time to go back now. LOL

We stayed on the strip it was close to the newer hotels, it is not going to be any more expensive. try to find an off time, seriously unless you want to stay in the room all the time, there is no reason to stay at a real expensive hotel since you won't be in there much anyway. We sayed at treasure island had a huge room with the view of the pool for under 50.00. we are going this november and staying off from the strip this time. have a great time. the visual stimulation is wonderful. Don't forget to go to the coke and the M&M stores.

I always stay on the strip but try and do a different hotel each time just to get a good feel for them all. So far I'd have to say that the Luxor was my favorite hotel to stay in.
I find downtown to be a little too "Old Vegas" for my tastes.

I love the Downtown atmosphere better than the Strip. Better odds on the tables too!

Usually the first 2 days I'm there, I stay on the strip. After that I stay under the overpass on Route 12.

Along the strip. Downtown is dirty and a little bit dangerous.

I stayed downtown on Fremont Street, cheaper and cool stuff to do. The strip is an easy bus ride if you want to go there.
