Firstly, your friend is talking complete bollocks. If he drinks 15 pints and is then breathalysed, it will come up positive.
Secondly, there is a form of 'walk the line' in UK. There are two main drink-drive offences
Firstly, driving, attempting to drive or being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit.
Secondly, driving, attempting to drive or being in charge of a motor vehicle while unfit through drink or drugs.
The first offence is dealt with by a breathalyser test and the evidence is provided by an evidential machine at the station. There does not have to be any evidence that the suspect is drunk or his driving ability is impaired. In the second offence there does have to be such evidence. This is provided by a police doctor at the station who carries out an examination that is a lot more involved than 'walk the line'.
If you want a giggle, watch your friend drink 15 pints, get in his car and get pulled by police. Not everything you read on the internet is true.

Nottingham Police already do the 'walk the line' etc for people they suspect of being unfit through drugs and a lot of other forces are waiting to see the results.
They still use the breathalyser. I doubt if your mate could actually beat one, it's more likely he has found one of the few reasons the Police accept for not giving the test, but in those circumstances they will, wherever they suspect he has been drinking, take him to the station for a different type of test.

The only way to beat the breathalizer that I have heard of is large wedges of cash, but I have seen people who are way over the limit walk a straight line on their hands

I don't think your friend is being entirely honest...
And he will one day suffer the consequences of his alcoholism.
There are "remedies" to pass the walk-the-line test though... drinking vodka with red bull all night will cause a person to not "realize" how drunk they are until it's too late...

"Walk the line" is NOT accurate! I suggest a breathalyzer in ALL cases. You DO have the right to insist on one. (However, in many states you cannot refuse one without harsh penalties).
I am disabled and cannot "walk the line" in most circumstances. I also cannot stand on my right foot, though I can stand on my left foot alone. Many people who have hearing problems also cannot "walk the line" because their balance is impaired by damage to the inner ear.

I feel like we should adopt the american, drink-driving test. It might, justifiably get more drink-driver's off the road.
