Is it softer/smoother? My face gets a little irritated on my regular pillowcase.

Cotton fabrics vary in quality depending on where the plant is grown, the weaving structure, thread count and treatments.

Combed cotton is cleaner (and is usually used on Babies Sheets and Clothes), because it has been combed. That means more of the cotton seeds have been combed out of it. It normally feels softer than regular 100% cotton. Sateen Cotton is a satin weave (very closely woven) and is slightly shiny.

I like the sateen better. It feels better on my skin. It does have somewhat of a shiney appearance. That is all I will buy now. Higher the threadcount the softer it is. Try a 400tc. That is 400 threads per square inch.

Not necessarily better. It all depends on thread count. Sateen just refers to shine.
