It is a switch that won't let your car start unless it is in park or neutral. It is usually connected to the outside of the transmission. Get a chilton manual (from the part store) and find out where yours is.

There is a switch that screws into the transmission right next to the gear selector shaft.

They don't usualy go out. It may be a simple adjustment.

on the transmission,,it keeps ya from starting the car ..1 with out the clutch engaged,or the auto trans in drive

this prevents the truck from starting while its in gear, its probably on the steering collum..
