yes they do,the flywheel will also get some wear on it,but most of the time its the starter that causes this,you can take it off and have it checked at auto zone or advance,they can tell you for sure,good luck on it.

Take the starter to get tested before you buy a new one. Check the teeth on the flywheel to see if they are damaged in anyways while you have the starter off. It is possible that you might need some shims to get your flywheel and starter teeth to line up as the flywheel teeth wear down.

sounds like a bad starter . go by your local auto zone. there will do a free sterter test on the car to let you know for sure if it is the starter or something else.

I don't know if its original or not but Chevy had ring gears with different amounts of teeth,that could be causing your noise.I would pull the starter and look at the teeth and gear for damage,if its not been modified it probably is the starter.

first check and see if the starter is tight ...if it is then you might take the starter off and look at the gear and flywheel if it looks good the starter may just need to be shimmed to get a correct "mesh"

yes they do it will make a grinding noise or a high pitch squeal or a clicking sounds anyone shop could tell you better cause we cant hear it but yes they go out so sooner the better you be getting it check ok... it dont cost any money for someone to hear it start
