i know this sounds retarded and uninteresting but i have to write a paper on improving my writing skills?

my subject is english 101 and i need ideas on "how can improving my writing skills help me accomplish my goals" please help

First you state what your goals are in the paper you are writing.
Next, you state that by learning better grammar and correct punctuation, your writing skills will improve.
So if your goal is to be a free lance writer for let's say "The Houston Chronicle", you are going to need to be able to get your point across to your readers.
If no one understands what you are saying or trying to say, your submission will be turn down.
No acceptance means no money. No money means no eats and you pretty much know the rest of the story from there on out.
I hope this explains things better for you. English 101, is difficult at first unless you just love to write. Everything comes with practice.
