The above poster seems to not know children very well. Children also do best with rules and structure. If you do not give a child boundaries they are far more likely to get into trouble in school, at home, and in the real world.
I treat my dog as if she were my child. Now this does mean that I do silly things (like buy her clothes) but it also means that she is well trained, well cared for (I make sure she gets only the proper amount of food, she has all of her shots, and she is always groomed and on full preventative medicine.)

Yes I would spoil any pet I own. I mean come on a animal is more then just a pet. It become a part of the family when or just soon after you get it. Pets have that ability to make us humans love, and pamper them shortly after we get them. I have given friends pets gift wrapped presents at Christmas.

Oh yes I do big time esp our dog Starr. She gets treats when our kids get sweets. She sleeps on our bed when my hubby is on a early shift at work - My kids aint aloud to do that!
I do have alot of animals but I know when enough is enough. On the 'Animal cop' programmes on Animal Planet, the people dont know when to stop. If I got that bad I would ask for help and not leave it and hope it would go away.

Yes, and no. I would do anything and everything to make my dogs happy, and I do, but I would not do it to the point where they actually became, well, spoiled. In a way, I do treat them like my children and they are truly a part of my family, but I never forget that they are dogs, and that they need rules and boundaries and a leader (actually, children do too). They get to have all the comforts and love I can give them, they sleep with me at night and spend all day with me, they have the highest quality food and the most fun toys and chews, BUT they do not get to push me around and misbehave like so many pet owners let their dogs do. When it gets to that point, when you have taken away the leader a dog truly needs in their life, I think you are doing them a disservice.

a pet is not really a pet it is in fact a member of your family and you should treat it like it isi have pit bulls, 5 to be exact, and they are the sweetest loving and protecting animals i have ever seen, they are like my children and thats how i treat them, and there is no such thing as a bad pet it is the bad owner that needs to never have an animal, any way yes to your question, and i wish that i had the money to go out and save all the poor misstreated animals, They need to make stiffer laws for cruelty to animals.......

We certainly do!! She gives us unconditionally love and she is like a child to us. If anyone out there doesn't like it that's tough. She gives us more love than most people give each other. I can't watch those shows on Animal Planet that you are talking about-----I get too upset!

Nope. I would if my dog liked me the most out of the family... But he doesn't (which is probably because I DON'T spoil him).
Same with my cat. But I love cows way more. So when I buy two I'm sure they'll be drowned with attention and love. Hehe

yes we spoil our pomeranian and because of it he has become very smart. I have never had a dog that knows as much as he does. it's kind of scary sometimes, lol, but as long as he's happy, we're doing what we're supposed to as responsible pet owners. and to DP your response was ridiculous. I think someone has been watching too much "dog whisperer". animals like to be adored and treated like our children, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you give your pet boundaries.
