No way. How can you be one of the best teams in Division I if you can't beat a team in Division II. As a loyal MSU fan, I have to say this pretty much makes my football season.

You have to remember that Michigan's ranking was in the preseason poll, which is based on absolutely nothing except expectations. Poll positions are a lot more fluid this time of year, and a number of people -- not just Ohio State fans, but coaches and sportswriters -- thought Michigan was ranked too high to begin with.

So no, they should not be ranked. Now, if this were October and they came in to the game ranked #5, I'd see them dropping to the 15-20 range.

If I were a Michigan fan, I might be less concerned about the loss itself than the fact that they gave up 34 points to a 1-AA team. The Wolverine defense was a sieve against both Ohio State and USC at the end of last season, and had even more question marks this season. If this week's game was any indication, the folks at Wisconsin may need to make sure the scoreboard at Camp Randall can handle triple digits.

Yeah they got embarrassed by Appalachian State, and they deserve a free fall in the rankings. However, this may be just the aligning of stars, the perfect storm, the being in the wrong place at the wrong time. And Michigan was unfortunately the team there.

I personally loathe the Big Ten and all the teams in it, but I truly think Michigan is at least one of the 25 best teams. I guess we'll see soon enough.

No, but given the fact that they were overrated at #5, they won't fall out of the Top 25. They should be around 22, but don't be surprised if they're in the 15-20 range.

Had they been where they probably should have been, which is about 12, they would fall out. Also, expect Texas to drop as well, after a very mediocre performance against Arkansas State.

I have been a michigan fan my whole life. I went to the game saturday and it was terrible. The coaching was what lost them the game, they were not prepared at all. They don't deserve to be in the top 25 after that embarressing loss. I definatly think they are in the top 5 best teams in college football, but they didn't play like it. They will be ranked after they beat oregon and notre dame, but they dont deserve to be ranked right now. I think they will win the rest of their games, but they need to win a game first to be ranked.

Based on their team, they are deserving. Can you really say that no other "Top 25" team would have lost to Appalachian State? They are a great team.

I agree that Michigan should fall to 15th or so. Another loss and they are out.

I think bumping them out of the Top 25 means that a pollster needs to think they would lose to all 25+ of the teams ranked ahead of them. While they are certainly not as good as their #5 ranking would imply, Saturday was a fluke due to them being underprepared mentally. They are talented enough to beat Applachian State and some of the lower-ranked Top 25 teams, and therefore still deserve a ranking.

Nope. In fact, as a long time Wolverine, I would be insulted if they were given a top 25 slot. They need to prove they belong now by stringing together a couple of wins. If they still have only one loss after the Penn State game, then lets talk about putting them in the top 25.

Schmidt, you're just asking for it at this point.

I think Michigan will drop to anywhere in the 12-17 range. Don't forget, it is the University of Michigan, the pollsters want Michigan to be in the top 25, it's good for the sport.

I can't wait for Buckeye fans responses.

Old School Go Blue, you seem to forget that App. State is a very respectable program, that could easily compete in D-1A.

No, they don't deserve a top 25 spot. It's a classic case of Div. 1 favoratism in the polls. I guess now, with their pride badly bruised up, they will focus all of their energy on playing their season to beat the Buckeyes, since they are waaaaay behind Tressel in the past few years. Ha!

Yes they should be. While I think it would be in the 20 to 25 range, I do not believe they will fall out or deserve to fall out.
