Fresh meat shouldn't be held in the refrigerator any longer than 48 hours, 24 hours for ground meet. If you want to keep it any longer than that, wrap well, date and freeze.

You mean not fit to eat? Meat should have no foul smell at all, and the color will also change if it is spoiled, and there will be a slimy feel to it.

Ask yourself how long you've had the meat out of the freezer; and look for any funny odors or any discoloring, if you're not sure, don't trust it. It's not worth it; just buy more meat.

smell it........that is the best way. Some people think that the color change is a surefire way to tell but some meat just starts to turn brown........but it can still be good.......smell it
