They can see out quite well. Most fish can easily make out motion any where in the room. Some can even sometimes recognize people from across the room.

As everyone said, YES THEY CAN! My goldies, who were the size of small dogs, used to see me walk in the door and go absolutely NUTS begging for food! If you pay close enough attention when you approach the tank, usually each fish will have it's own unique reaction (such as shying away or swimming right up to the glass to see you, etc.). Just take your time and watch them sometime. It's really fun trying to figure out their personalities! Good luck! ;o)

Fish can see through the glass, so they can see anything there is in the tank or outside

yes they can, unless you have a background up but that would only cover one or three sides. I know when i walk up to my angels, they go right to the top for food and they dont for anyone else, with everyone else they just go up when they see the food. But yes, they can see through the tank as you can see in.

And FYI dylan gilmore, fish can not hear. They do NOT have ears, they feel vibrations.

OK they can hear? they dont have ears or any organs that allow them to hear so chances are they see you ringing the bell but dont hear it and know seeing you means food.

As MM said, they certainly can see through the glass. That is why they react to sudden movements made around the tank. The see out the glass just as easily as we see into it.

Bama, all sound is vibrations! So yes, every time you make a noise, it is because you made something vibrate. When you talk, air causes your vocal cords to vibrate. These vibrations travel through the air, and through the water, so they ARE detecting vibrations. When you ring the bell, the bell is vibrating, making noise.

Yes they can. Try to sneak up on them at feeding time and you will see.
Yes they CAN hear. I open my door every day and pull a little string to ring the little bell by the door, look over in the pond and my Koi come up to eat. There is no vibration there. Also, my grandson will go out by the pond and sit for an hour and watch the fish, then he calls them to offer food and they come to the edge when he calls without moving fro the pool-side bench he was sitting on the whole time.
A friend has a catfish pond and feed shis fish every day, He goes and sits by the pond for a while and then rings a little bell for the fish to come and eat and here they come.

Do they come over to the glass and start begging for food when you walk by? That should answer your question. ;)
