The Montana class battleships were never built, the contract for construction was canceled in 1943. By that time the U.S. Navy realized that the days of the ' Great Battleships ' was over & the aircraft carrier was the new 'King' of the high seas. Only the Iowa class battleships were completed : Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin & Missouri. Main armament was 3 turrets w/3 16" guns each.

PS. It took me less than 10 mins. to verify this info on the internet. Amazing what you can find out there, if you look.............LOL!

as was said, two triple 16/50 cal turrets forward, two aft; 28 knots top speed......think an Iowa class trading 5 knots of speed for an extra turret and 3" more armor. Never laid down as we built carriers instead.

The only US ships with 3 turrets forward and aft were the Atlanta/Oakland class AA light cruisers with twin 5"/38 turrets, 3 forward 3 aft;
