just started today. i was runing her pretty hard today and its a fairly new engine, (3500 miles) i am the first owner and this is my first bike ninja 250. what could this be. am planning on taking her to shop on tue if it continues, but want a rough idea.

how loud is the ticking? all bikes tick to some degree... fuel injectors and cam chain noise can both sound like ticking. it is possible you just never noticed it before. try see if you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from with a screwdriver. in time you will learn to love the ticking!

Probably just the valves ticking and needs a valve adjustment.
When was the last time they were adjusted? If they even ever were adjusted?

I had the same problem with mine. I put a Hartz 2 in 1 flea and tick collar on mine and it got rid of the ticks.

Preignition from a crappy tankful of low octane gas. Make your next tank "premium" instead of "regular."

Sounds like valves out of adjustment. Also check your oil level to be sure you are getting proper lubrication.
