I was part of a support group for a few years for parents who had lost a child. It was very helpful at first, but then most of the people I had identified with dropped out (parents of older children who had died....my daughter was 15) and the only parents in there had lost their children at birth. I didn't think I had anything to give them as far as advice, so I dropped out too. I would say the whole experience was positive though.
