Use the first three letters of the HIN, that identifys the manufacturer, with that information look to their web site or search yahoo groups for manufacturer groups. Older HIN numbers are different from new ones, my 1974 Chrysler has the middle digits identifying year. HIN came in 1973, so if the boat is older than that you have just a serial number that had no formal code from different manufacturers, so it could mean anything. If the boat is a 2002 year the Coast Guard or Transport Canada identification plate should id the model and year. This plate will be located near the controls or steering depending on the boat.
