Hey I saw them beat my team up and down the field. I was at the big house.

I bet they could be alot of ranked teams. Especially if the coaching is as bad as Lloyd Carr.

Yes Appalacian State is no joke whatsoever as they are the defending division 2 champion. They have good athletes on both sides of the ball and a big and hard hitting football team. Although what they done yesterday was a giant upset, they very well could and would beat a lot of division 1 schools without question. Remember Marshall? They once played in the same conference and now they are playing division 1 football and have beat some big boys in the process as well. The bigger schools and conferences just have more scholarships and money tied up in their programs and able to land more big time players usually. Depth is usally also a big advantage as division 1 teams have more players. Appalacian State is well coached and a very good team and will probably be playing in a conference at the next level in a few years.

There are a few teams in the 1-AA that are a whole lot better than some teams in 1-A, but they never have gone. After that big upset, Im sure App St and others are thinkin 1-A, but 1-AA will definitely want them to stay since they have brought a lot more attention. So, Yes they definitely, no questions asked, could enter, but probably will not. Another reason is that they will want a lot of success, and moving to 1-A wont have as much success as they will in 1-AA. Michigan is obviously better than Appalachian State, but many things happened that caused the loss. Especially because to Michigan it was just the first game to pump them up, but not to Appalachian State. They knew it was a chance to prove themselves. Michigan was just focused on week 2, and working to get better for then. Long story short, Michigan is a whole lot better, just overlooked the huge underdogs.

i was thinking the same thing. i was watching the game in the parking lot b4 the USC game and i thought APP ST's game plan was phenomenal. they knew MIs team better than MI did. but an argument can be made that if Hart hadnt sat for almost 2 quarters it may have been different...even still, w/ out Hart, MI should have beaten them. i wouldnt be surprised if APP ST beat another top 25 team. (if they played)

what about APP STs QB though??? i was really impressed by him. he seemed to read the D very well and find the open man. not to mention making plays w/ his feet.

i think this year a one loss team will have a great shot at the nat champ game...but sorry man...no one will let MI in w/ this one loss.

it had to happen some time to some team. glad it wasnt mine.

Well, they won 2 Division 1-AA Championships and obviously beat the #5 team in the nation.

yeah they can but they will have to be phased in and that will take 2 to 4 years but i don't think they're university is big enough but when they do and they will they will still be like boise state and have to earn the respect of others by playing d-1 teams week in and week out

I think it depends on:

The number of scholarships they offer
The seating capacity of the stadium
The number of season ticket holders

probably other requirements

So today, they obviously don't meet the criteria for these

Edit:
From a talent standpoint, it seems as though they can compete with 1A today, but these things are cyclical. Maybe next year they are just average....

No. they can't but, forget MICHIGANS coach. the BOZO that scouted them and, still put them on the schedule, that's who they should fire. how do You not notice two consecutive Division 1-AA national titles and, a 15 game winning streak.
