I was sick on Friday and my boss made a big deal thinking I was trying to take a longer weekend! They always do that! Anyways I was sick and obtained a doctors note I am picking up Tuesday before work. Can I still get fired or do they have to accept this if the doctor puts I needed to be excused on Friday? If they fire can I go after them or file unemployement?

They can't fire you with a doctor's note. If they have a strict attendance policy or you have missed a lot of days they could fire you otherwise. Usually you can get unemployment if they have never warned you about attendance.

Just because you were sick doesn't mean you had to go see a doctor. You did what was asked of you, he said you have to have a doctor's note to be able to return to work, and that is what you did. I honestly don't see where you can be fired for it unless you have an excessive amount of absences. If this is the case, if you get fired, you will have a very hard time getting unemployment. But I think you will be fine.

You don't say where you are. If it is a "right to work" State, they can fire you for any reason, or none. Appears you don't have sick days where you work. Are you under your probationary period where 3 absences are grounds for release? Getting unemployment when fired is tough. Where I live, you need to wait 8 weeks. Bad part is that you probably need to work the day before and the day after to get holiday pay and Friday was the day before.

Do you have any lates, tardies, write ups, job performance is that good with your employer. However that could be a part in leting some one go. Doctor's note is a good thing to get and every one needs to rest now and then. The employer where you work and others have to honor the doctor's note as long as it is not a repeatly over and over situation. My employees at my business we have a request book if they need to be off on certain days and they also call me as well if any employees are changing with another employee.

Did you ever notice, everybody gets sick on Friday. No one ever gets sick on Thursday. AMAZING! Thursday is usually payday.
