This mainly applies to white people...I've never understood why people would want a tan. I've always disliked having a tan and avoid getting any tanner. Why is it that tan is thought of as attractive, in America?

I'm Asian. And I actually do use whitening creams to try to make my skin lighter.

It's a sign of being rich enough to lay around in the sun, or take vacations. It actually started with Coco Chanel, oddly enough. She came back once with a tan and everyone freaking loved it.
I'm half Native American, so ten minutes and a bit of cocoa butter is all it takes. Not a lot of money or time ;) Where are you from if I might ask?

That breaks my heart, I love the way Asian girls look I love their skin color I think it is very pretty and sexy. Americans like tans because we think they are pretty and attractive. Unlike in many Asian countries where a tan is considered not as attractive and even as a sign that one is of the poorer class, here in America that is just the opposite. Here being pale is not as attractive. I think the most beautiful women in the world are Asian girls with tan skin, I love them they are so beautiful! I hope the stuff you are using is not to make your skin permanently that color. Like I said I am willing to bet you have a beautiful look to you and your skin naturally. I wish all Asian women could see themselves the way I do! You would not want to change a thing about yourself at all. =)

Its not just America. England and Australia are following the trend of having a golden glow. Having a tan is thought to be the epitome of healthiness. Unfortunately a tan is not healthy and people that go to tanning beds run the high risk of getting cancer from them.
In my opinion people should just accept whatever colour they are born with.

I like having a little bit of tan, so I look healthy instead of anemic. Many people think having deep tans is pretty, and guys tend to like girls that are tan.

Well if you look "too white" or something stupid like that then people think you either come from russia or sit in your house all day. Other than that i really dont know.

they just wanna be like the polynesiansand other races with darker skin than them, because white people are copy cats, and they dont have their own styles. and because brown skin is more attractive and beautiful then white ol plain skin. (i know cuz im local ;) )
