Four corners:
"The Four Corners is the survey point at the intersection of the four U.S. states of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona and the high desert plateau region surrounding that point in the southwestern United States. This is the only point in the United States where four states touch. Three of the four state corners are on the Navajo Indian Reservation. The fourth corner, Colorado, is on the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation."

I'd say in a beachside lava flow in Hawaii during a volcanic eruption. The states are:
1. Utter panic (your emotional state);
2. Solid (the ground you're standing on and whatever of you has not yet vaporized);
3. Liquid (the water or the lava flow, take your pick);
4. Gas (could be the air itself, but I'm not so cheap - I'd give you credit for gas via your vaporizing flesh);
5. Plasma (the parts of you which, as they vaporize, ignite into flame).
Or weren't those the kinds of states you had in mind? :-?
;-)
Okay, seriously now:
A 4-state standingpoint is at approximately this location:
37° 0'8.83"N
109° 3'2.74"W
...and the states are: Arizona, Utah, Colorado & New Mexico.
I didn't see any areas where 5 states would be accessible, though.

Its called "Four Corners", its where the states of Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado all meet at one corner.
3 of the corners are on Navajo Indian Reserve, the Colorado corner is on the Ute Mountain Indian Reserve.
I've been there, there is a monument you can climb onto and stand on the 4 states. Its high desert country, not much else around there (but beautiful countryside).

Greetings! There is only one place in the United States where you can stand in one place (or even on one foot) and be in four states.
That is the four corners of Southwest Arizona, Northwest Utah, Northeast Colorado and Southeast New Mexico.
I have seen pictures of it and would dearly love to go out and visit the monument.
Hope this helps you.

Look on a U.S. Map. I think about the edge of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah.
