My son is 5 1/2 months.. When i eat, he goes crazy asking for something.. we wants whatever i have, i'll try to give him a teething ring, and he won't have that! He's eating breakfast of cereal and fruit, but thats about it.. no lunch or dinner yet..
So is there anything i can give him to chew on, that won't cause him to choke? He's teething, and already got his bottom two, but obviously won't be able to chew whatever he's putting in his mouth.. any ideas?

Whatever you are eating, puree a bit for him! Let him eat with you!

He should already be eating baby food, especially cereal. He certainly can't choke on that. Give him Zwieback toast or Arrowroot Cookies. There are also fruit cereals that are in the baby food section. Check for the age of the child and anything that has your child's age is OK to try. When you try a new food, don't give him more than one new food every few days because it's easier to find any hidden allergies that way.

Let him eat with you- that is what we did with our son. Your little guy is sounding like he is ready for more- so bite a bit off, if it's hard, chew it and give him a bite. He'll love it!
Our son didn't get his first tooth until he was 15 months old- and he had whatever we had from the time he was 6 months of age. Their gums are tough and they will learn to chew. Right now, he needs soft foods. Give him a jar of baby food if you like- and let him snack on that while you eat. THis is great news because he is wanting to try more.
Good job!

Use the Gerber puffs. They are designed to help a baby learn how to chew. They are crunchy at first, dissolve slowly so that choking hazards are minimal, and are so low in calories you child will still have hunger for nutritious foods at meal time. These became a staple in our diaper bag and house (and still are with our twins at 12 months) so that anyone could give them and it kept them entertained when we couldn't focus our attention on one or both of them. Start with the veggie flavors before the fruit flavors so that your kid will still like vegetables when you provide the real thing. The puffs also allowed us to get through most of a meal together so they could see us eating with them. Good luck!

Try the Gerber puffs. If he has teeth he should be good. My daughter started eating them at 7 months with no teeth and she did fine.
Have you tried cutting up a banana for him? Picking up little pieces of banana will keep him quite busy while you eat, trust me, he will love it.

zwieback crackers are good fro teething. anything soft mashed potatoes, Gravy, soups and you could get a small food processor and give him what you eat. There are also very small coffee grinders that are very cheap that might work. Just make sure not to add seasoning to the food for him.

You can feed him baby foods, if he is already hungry for something more than milk, cereal and fruit will not be enough. Try the strained baby foods for lunch and dinner. There are also teething biscuits for babies his age that he can safely chew on and they taste good for baby too. My youngest son was eating grits and regular milk at 2 weeks.... he never could drink formula... and was never satisified til I put him on the regular milk, then he was fine!! Has been ever since, and now he is 14!! Good Luck! And God Bless!

Hi,
I think you can feed him many things. I fed my daughter solid food at 6 months. Your baby is almost 6 months already. I think it is fine to cut some fruits and let him eat it. remember, no round things.

Really at that age all he needs is rice cereal and baby food, or you can take things that you eat like veggies and mash them so that he wont choke, avoid, honey, eggs, berries, dairy, eggs and peanut butter.

In the baby food section, they have little gerber thingers that dissolve in your mouth, if you don't chew them.....theyre like little chunks and very spongey, and they come in a little pouch....

He can eat anything you do that #1 he likes and #2 you can kind of grind up. If you are worried though, call your local hospital and they will have a nurses question line. It will make you feel better.
