Iran Hostage Crisis?
"Even if it were true that Iran was supplying Iraqi citizens with weapons to fight foreign invaders, that hardly threatens the average American, does it?"
Well besides the fact the the foreigners are Americans, then yes.
Also, why would Iran supply Iraqi citizens with weapons to "fight foreign invaders" when Iraq and Iran have historically been enemies? You have to use logic sometimes you know.

Well--this is really two questions (thugh the right-wing insists on considering it a single one).
First--has Iran shown hostility. Absolutely--just look at the 1979-81 hostage crisis. In addition the current president of Iran has engaged in rhetoric that is threatening.
But--the second question is" is Iran capable of presenting a real threat to the United States. leaving aside the possibility of a state-sponsored terrorist attack, the answer is no. The Iranians simply do not have the ability to project enough militaary force to pose a credible threat. And the scare tactics of the Bush administration about Iran's "nuclear program" are just that--hype intended to frighten people into supporting his saber-rattling. But--even assuming they are trying to build atomic weapons--Iran is at least 10 years away from having an effective weapon. that's more than enough time to solve the problem by diplomatic means--though that will take real diplomacy, not the bullying tactics the Bush administration uses in place of real diplomacy.

From what I know Iran does not present a direct threat to the United States mainland. However we are allies with Israel and many other countries that could be harmed by Iran. Iran has a long list of irresponsible statements. Including them questioning whether or not the Holocaust ever existed. For a country that is so radical to make statements as they do can they be trusted to produce "peaceful" nuclear energy? Israel should be wiped off the face of the map? I'm sorry but if Iran wants to make threats such as..well then they can feel the wrath of the U.S. Military. Because you go to sleep every night not worrying about Iran really has no relevance to anything you just stated.

During the Iran Iraq war America was supplying Iraq with weapons to fight Iran, so why would Iran supply Iraq with weapons now? And even if we are, why can we not? You did when they were fighting us, so now the tables have turned and America is mad because things arent going their way. Iran will not attack America unless America gives them reason to, like goes to Iran and bombs. What can you expect from them? To sit around and let America bulley them forever? Enough is enough, atleast one country in the middle east has the balls to stand up against the USA. Why critisize us for defending what is ours? Nobody can provide real evidence to prove you wrong, all they can say is we are jealous of your freedom, and heres a tip no were not, get real. Well thank you for realizing Iran is not your enemy :] If only there were more open minded people in the world like you.

Your logic is flawed on more than one level. Suffice to say that the fact something does not bother you personally does not deny the existence of the problem. I am not concerned about AIDS, but it doesn't mean that the problem is not real, and that it will not bite my *** if I do something stupid.
USA and Iran (since the islamic revolution) are ideologically opposed to each other, similar to how things were between the old USSR and USA. I bet you could sleep at night without worries back then, although USSR could've pulverised you in sleep without you ever waking up.
Before you go to sleep tonight, think about this: there would be no greater joy for the current president of Iran (but not neccesarily Iranian people) but for you, another few million Americans, and all of Israel to perish overnight. Sleep tight!

During the Islamic revolution in the late 70's Iranian revolutionaries took over the United States' embassy in Tehran and held a number of American citizens hostage for over 400 days.
Since then, the rhetoric between the countries has run high but there have been, to my knowledge, no formal military confrontations. There are, however, elements of the Bush administration and the U.S. military and intelligence services that maintain Iran is providing materials, training and/or support for insurgent elements in Iraq who target U.S. troops there.

The rulers of Iran have called The US "The Great Satan" for reasons other than our CIA's involvement in installing a dictator many years ago (which we shouldn't have done). Even when Carter pulled The Shah out of Iran to prevent further bloodshed, Iran's new rulers blamed us for other things, like liberal attitudes and encouraging women to enjoy equal rights.
Maybe name calling is not much of a threat, but it is hostility, and funding terrorists makes them a threat also.

Have you ever heard of the Iranian Hostage Crisis? Many of those Americans held hostage for 444 days say that the present President of Iran was one of the captors.

"The United States is the greatest threat to world peace, and has been for a long time, and not merely because it is the world's only superpower. Equally important, the United States is also far more disposed to use its power than any other powerful nation currently is. Though Americans are culturally and emotionally blind to the fact, the mere intrusion of US power is, in and of itself, destabilizing."
T.D. Allman
"I have the greatest admiration for your propaganda. Propaganda in the West is carried out by experts who have had the best training in the world -- in the field of advertizing -- and have mastered the techniques with exceptional proficiency ... Yours are subtle and persuasive; ours are crude and obvious ... I think that the fundamental difference between our worlds, with respect to propaganda, is quite simple. You tend to believe yours ... and we tend to disbelieve ours."
Soviet correspondent based five years in the U.S.
"Our leaders are cruel because only those willing to be inordinately cruel and remorseless can hold positions of leadership in the foreign policy establishment ... People capable of expressing a full human measure of compassion and empathy toward faraway powerless strangers ... do not become president of the United States, or vice president, or secretary of state, or national security adviser or secretary of Defense. Nor do they want to."
William Blum
"The media are a pitiful lot. They don't give us any history, they don't give us any analysis, they don't tell us anything. They don't raise the most basic questions: Who has the most weapons of mass destruction in the world by far? Who has used weapons of mass destruction more than any other nation? Who has killed more people in this world with weapons of mass destruction than any other nation? The answer: the United States."
Howard Zinn
"Far from being the terrorists of the world, the Islamic peoples have been its victims, principally the victims of U.S. fundamentalism, whose power, in all its forms-military, strategic, and economic-is the greatest source of terrorism on Earth.... People are neither still nor stupid. They see their independence compromised, their resources and land and the lives of their children taken away, and their accusing fingers increasingly point north: to the great enclaves of plunder and privilege. Inevitably, terror breeds terror and more fanaticism. But how patient the oppressed have been. Their distant voices of rage are now heard; the daily horrors in faraway brutalized places have at last come home."
John Pilger
