I'm in Beirut right now - my first time here. I love it here - even with all of the hatred (don't ask - everyone I meet here hates someone or some group...). At least there are different types of people here and different points of view - and (at least now) no-one is killing each other over it (at least not native Lebanese). The place is beautiful, the people are warm and friendly and the women can be themselves (not all hiding behind veils and under robes). There are organizations that I have interviewed for my research that are specifically trying to empower people to become involved as citizens in a positive way (Nahwa al-Muwatiniya for example) - and there is the Basement for great techno/trance dance music. The person who I spoke to today (general manager of one of the TV stations) said that the more divisiveness in the society, the more there will be a counter-reaction of people saying 'hey, we need to learn to live together'. It may take a while, but my impression of this beautiful, stylish and cultured place is that it will eventually happen.

We can do much..
Above all to the new generations, To teach them to be tolerants..to respect another pple in spite of their believes can be different to ours..to help another pple without wait nothing in change..to join all under only 1 flag...the one , the beloved one with the CEDAR..to think that if there isnt union..we become weak as a country, but above all......to look to the future with optimism and to work for a better future to bring Lebanon back to the level and the respect it had among the international community few years ago.

I don't think that the hezzies having exhibits and video games is going to make peace come about any sooner. That is nasty propaganda spreading hate and undermining the true identity of Lebanon, it is supposed to be the one place in the desert that supports life, and beauty and nature. The one place in the desert that is the jewel, the diamond in the desert. It is being forgotten, the place that once was Lebanon, it is not the paradise it used to be. A modern version of heaven.

thumbs up to Hopeless.
I also think that it's big time we stopped looking to the outside for help and realized that no other country is "helping" us without ulterior motives and to serve their own interests. We need to learn to become our own people and this starts at home, with each individual sitting in their lounge room or behind a screen and debating whether we should vote for the Syria/Iran Clan or the Western world Clan.
This, and prayer. Sometimes you look at this huge mess and think that there is no solution and only a miracle can get us out of it.

I think we should be more open to all ideas and try to see things from everyone's perspective...arguing only leads to fighting...it's not worth it, life is too short to waste our energy fighting when, if we can see past our differences and focus on our common grounds we could live happier and prosper even if we all kept having our own believes.
We owe it to Lebanon and to the future generations to compromise and try to work things out.
We owe it to ourselves to show the world who is betting on the destruction of Lebanon that we can live in harmony.
