Learn to recognize "the difference between two squares," in this case, x-squared minus 1-squared. Then, as your first answer has it:
a² - b² = ( a + b ) ( a - b)
so, in your case,
x² - 1² = ( x + 1 ) ( x - 1 )
It even works with numbers. Since 25 - 9 is the difference of two squares, we can do an easy subtraction the hard way by saying:
25 - 9 = 5² - 3² = ( 5 + 3 ) ( 5 - 3 ) = (8)(2) = 16 .

a^2 - b^2 = (a+b)(a-b)
x^2 - 1
= x^2 - 1^2
= (x+1)(x-1)

x2-1
=x²-1
=x² - 1²
This is exactly like (a²-b²)=(a+b) (a-b)
=(x²-1²) = (x+1)(x-1)
