♥Ava:
little bird (Bird, to me, stands for freedom and someting with a lovely voice)

♥Naomi:
beautiful and gentle

I want to choose a name that is not common but not made up. I would also like for it to mean something.

Well AVA is incredibly popular right now, which is something you said you did not want. However, it is one of my favorite names and I think it is beautiful. We are thinking of using Avery with the nickname Ava.

The combo Ava Naomi is gorgeous and not common by any means. I think it flows well.

Good luck to you and your "little bird" :)

I like both names -- especially Naomi ;) -- but if you don't want something common, Ava probably isn't for you. It was the fifth most popular name last year!

Aveline (av-e-LEEN or, occasionally, AV-e-line) and Avila are less common options related to Ava. For what it's worth, however, Ava is generally considered a derrivation of Eve, not Avis (which is where you're getting the bird-like meaning). Others with similar "bird" meanings include Aderyn, Branwen, Circe (SUR-see) and Zipporah.

Hope that helps!

*** Edited to add a link to the SSA site, since there seemed to be some confusion about the numbers. ;)

yeah if you are going for not popular you might not want Ava, it was number one on the most popular name list some time in the 2000s I am pretty sure, or atleast one website told me (they all are different it seems hah)

I like the name though, both are very pretty.

I'm not sure if you are looking for suggestions or not but here are some
how about Amelie (ah-muh-lee) or Natalie or Lily or Lucy or Ophelia (oh-feel-ia) ?

Those two names alone are beautiful, but putting them together is VERY nice. I really like the combination; it is such a pretty and meangingful name. FYI: Naomi also means pleasant.

I love this name! I agree with you about names with meanings. A lot of people name their kids and they don't even know what the name means

♦I say go for it!♦

It's a nice name. If it fits in well with the surname I would think it would work very well.

The names are a bit old-fashioned, but I don't see anything wrong with that.
